After Rubens

After visiting the National Gallery in November 2020 I was transfixed by a Painting by Peter Paul Rubens Called Minerva protects Pax from Mars it is also known as Peace and War.

The composition of how there figures and colours and rhythm would take your eye on a journey from the bottom far left corner to the top far and then move round in a circle with the interaction of the figures. The contrast colours of Dark and light was so dramatic I felt mesmerised and I wanted to understand the painting and so decided to make my own versions at home from sketches and a photo.

I created some watercolour and ink and acrylic quick sketches and I would like to continue to a large oil painting when I get some space in the studio.
